Chapter 17 — Adam

At his feet

Adam hadn't planned on going this far, but it was done now. Entering the apartment, he merely thought he’d get some explanations from Chris about the previous night. He’d also planned to tell him about the latest developments in his life with Chad. Yet, here he was, ready to open his heart, and, maybe, more.

Chris' lips were soft under his, his supple tongue sliding into his mouth. Nothing there to rush them. Nothing but sweetness. And, God knew Adam, like Chris, was in need. Chris, half lying on the sofa, ran his hand up Adam's back. Leaning over him, most of his weight supported by the arm of the couch, careful not to crush him. He couldn't help but anticipate Chris' reaction. Maybe he should prevent him? Should he show him the scars, instead of letting him find them himself and risk their relationship to stop there? He isn’t that superficial! Or is he? Indecision was ruining the mood for him. He might love having Chris under him, but he couldn't get rid of the little devil on his shoulder telling him he was going to flee the handsome man with the green eyes. If he didn't want to mess up their first time, he'd better stop everything right now.

Pushing back up, he withdrew slowly. Excitement colored Chris' emerald green eyes. Parted lips, breaths coming in short blasts; he was the perfect image from Adam's night-time fantasies. He hated to disappoint the man who had become so important to him, but he saw no alternative.

“Before we go any further, I have to tell you something. Something important.”

Chris merely nodded and dropped his arms to Adam's sides, without letting go completely. Next to Chris, Adam sat back on his heels. He grabbed his hand and intertwined their fingers, fixing his gaze on that connection between them.

“I know I'm a mood breaker, but I prefer to do this while we still have everything under control, rather than later.” He looked up in time to see a glimmer of panic in Chris' eyes and hastened to continue.

“No, I'm not positive, I have no incurable disease or STD, nothing like that. It's just that the life I've lived has left physical scars, which aren't always pleasant to see. I'm used to them, but I’d like to, as much as possible, avoid you the shock of discovery. So, I prefer to warn you.”

“Okay,” Chris murmured, looking much relieved. “If I may, I'm healthy, too; I get tested regularly. And, what you have to show me cannot be that bad. Let me judge for myself, okay?” he asked, his voice low and husky.

It was Adam's turn to nod. He tried to relax, or he would never enjoy what was about to commence. Chris caught him as he got up and held out his hand. He observed Chris entwining their fingers, as he had done earlier. With a smile, he looked into his eyes, approached him and whispered “You are beautiful”, placing a feather-light kiss on his mouth.
